Archie Melvin Hill, 85, of Granite City, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Mclean County, Ky. He married Alice Vaughn April 16, 1987. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War and Alaska before it became a state. Archie loved to sing karaoke and you could find him at the Luna Cafe in Mitchell on Friday nights. For 50 years he worked doing small engine repair and was well-known for his expertise.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Hill, of Granite City; two daughters, Mickey and Robyn Hill; two sons, Melvin and Steven Hill, all of Maryland; two sisters, Lucy (Gilbert) Evans of Whitesville, Ky., and Patsy (Dale) Faith of Owensboro, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clarice J. (nee: Hill) Woodward; a stepfather who raised him, Edgar Lee Woodward; and a son, Darren Hill.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Online guestbook available at www.wojstrom.com.
