East Alton, IL – The Civic Memorial Senior Squadron, local unit of the Civil Air Patrol, is participating in the 22nd Annual Wings & Wheels Open House beginning at 9:00am on September 24th, 2016 at the St. Louis Regional Airport. According to the squadron spokesman, Joshua Jones, the entire community is welcome to attend and learn more about CAP.
Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain CAP’s missions for America to create a greater awareness of CAP’s presence and contributions in the community. The squadron’s glass cockpit G1000 aircraft will also be on static display.
Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 57,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 71 lives in fiscal year 2015. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.
