Annual Community Youth Free Banquet Planned
An ordained evangelist who frequently reaches out to hearing-impaired is planning a community youth banquet free in Alton.
The annual event will be Saturday, September 27th beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Transformers United for Christ International Outreach Ministries' banquet room, called the "Holy Ground Cafe" at 1145 College Avenue.
Lorena Burnett, founder of "The Gift of God Ministries" is planning the event. Her non-profit organization reaches out in an attempt to give the younger generation positive directions.
Born in Metropolis, and growing up in Alton, she attended public schools and has said she was sheltered because of her own hearing disability. Some of her ministry includes on-air teaching and prayer on KSTL-AM 690 radio in St. Louis.
She retired at Olin Corp. with 32 years of service. She is a songwriter, recording artist, and poet and has published several books.
The banquet will feature local talent, the Praise dancers, miracle testimonies with special guest and emcee Elder Linda Galloway of Operation/Manager "Morning host show" 690 AM Radio St. Louis.
Other guest speakers include Pastor Marva Petrus, Cornerstone Deaf Church, Godfrey and Evangelist Lorena Burnett, Founder and President of "The Gift of God Ministries" and honored organist Brendalia Spearman whose father is renowned singer on the Bobby Jones show.
The event targets those ages 11-29. Those bringing a youth group will also receive a free meal.
Burnett has been giving fundraisers and working with deaf and dysfunctional youth community since 2008.
