Learn the womanly art of belly dance (Raqs Sharki) while you dance for fun and fitness.
Enjoy a highly aerobic first hour with warm up, drills and the monthly feature, which includes rhythms, musical interpretation, veils, zills and many more. Practicing combinations and choreography will be the last portion of the class. All levels of dancers welcome and no special equipment necessary. Each class is separate and previous class is not required. Preregistration preferred but drop-ins are welcome.
Classes are 6:00-7:30 pm Saturdays, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, and Nov. 19. Cost is $15 but bring a friend and you each pay just $13. Sign up and pre-pay for all three classes and pay just $12/class.
Month 1: Rhythms of the Arabian Nights
Explore the fascinating rhythms of belly dance music. Arabic music is layered with many instruments and is incredibly beautiful. So how do we know what the music is saying? Listening and understand the rhythms of the music while we move to the beat. We will focus on 1 rhythm and learn combinations.
Month 2: Dancer of the Veils
Dances of the veils is shrouded in mystery no more! Enjoy the beautiful dancing with veils and learn the techniques to move effortlessly and gracefully with silk or chiffon fabric. veils are not required as Katie has some to borrow.
Month 3: Zills and other instruments in Belly dance
Get into the groove while you add another element to the music by playing along. Having a set of Zills is not mandatory but is welcome Katie has only limited number of zills available for borrowing but we can share and rotate with other instruments.
