Environmental Challenges in Amazonian Peru
Edwardsville, IL – On Thursday, September 25, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Jennifer Rehg, Associate Professor, Anthropology will present Environmental Challenges in Amazonian Peru.
In the last few decades there have been dramatic changes to environments in Amazonian Peru related to many factors, including the construction of the Interoceanic Highway through the Amazon basin, widespread deforestation, and intensive gold mining. These activities have dramatically affected environments and human communities in many ways.
This program will discuss the complex situation in the Peruvian Amazon and how it related to the future of the region, for people and ecosystems. These presentations are in partnership with the SIUE Office of Educational Outreach, with technical equipment provided by the SIUE Meridian Society. They are open to the public.
