Grafton’s Music in the Park is a free concert series presented by the Grafton Chamber of Commerce each summer on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.
Performances start at 7 p.m. at The Grove Memorial Park and last approximately two hours. The Grove Memorial Park is located at the corner of Main Street and Market (Rt. 3) in downtown Grafton. Musicians perform under the gazebo while listeners enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and majestic views of the Mississippi River.
The first concert will be Matt Taul and Friends, an Americana band, on Thursday, June 2 and will continue every Thursday in June and July with the last performance Aug. 4 by The Ramblers performing bluegrass, Americana and country style music.
There will be a special performance by Grafton native Jake Weber and the Lonesome Drifters on July 14.
“It’s so exciting to have a Graftonian perform during our concert series,” Carla Newton, the organizer of the event, stated. “We have so many talented musical acts in Jersey County and nearby that there’s never a shortage of bands for us to showcase.”
Another new band scheduled to perform will be The Hot Flashes. They are an all-woman, 5-piece arrangement band from St. Louis playing oldies from the 50s to the 70s.
One of Newton’s favorites are The Ramblers, a bluegrass band that will perform on Aug. 14.
“The sound they brought to Grafton was traditional bluegrass twang wrapped up in a three-part harmony,” she explained. “They were amazing.”
All concerts are free and people are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Some picnic tables and benches will be available.
There will be a 50/50 drawing during the concerts with all proceeds to be donated to the Jersey Community High School band program.
Concert goers are encouraged to bring a can or dry food donation that will be given to the Grafton Food Pantry. Rain or inclement weather may cancel this event.
These concerts are funded in part by the Grafton Chamber of Commerce, Jersey State Bank and other area businesses. For more information, go to www.EnjoyGrafton.com<http://www.EnjoyGrafton.com>.
