SIUE Friends of Music Slate Two Fund-raisers
The theme for SIUE's Friends of Music (FOM) this fall is "Friends of Music is on the Move!" as they host two fund-raising events in neighboring communities during next several weeks.
The "Silents Are Golden" event at the Alfresco Arts Center in Granite City will shine a spotlight on classic black and white films from the silent movie era on Saturday, October 10 at 7 p.m. SIUE Music faculty, students and alumni will provide a trip back in time for the audience. Along with live performances of the musical scores to accompany the movie short and comedy double feature, this event will feature ushers in their traditional uniforms, a sing-a-long and some surprises. Refreshments are available for purchase.
Jack Jenkins, the "Emperor of the Organ," will entertain on the building's original 1921 pipe organ. Jack is well know throughout the bi-state area for playing traditional movie house pipe organs, and has regularly performed at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis and the Lincoln Theatre in Belleville.
Come for a great concert, choreography and classic comedy!
Tickets are $15 per person
Alfresco Arts Center is at 2041 Delmar in Granite City. Contact Tracy in the SIUE Department of Music at 618-650-3900 for reservations.
