Edna M. Spann is celebrating 100 years of living.
A party is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation, 1001 S. State St., Jerseyville.
The party is given by her family. Spann’s family requests no gifts; cards only.
Spann was born July 27, 1914, in Butte, Mont. Her father died in the copper mine, and her mother moved the family to Alton when Edna was 4 years old. She married Russell L. Spann on her 18th birthday. They were married for 58 years. She has one daughter, Marjorie Whitsell; two grandchildren, Mary Whitsell and Mark Whitsell, and two great-grandsons, David and Whitt Whitsell. The Spanns lived in Brisbane, Australia; Madra, India, and traveled throughout Europe and Asia. She resided in Kendall Hill and Wood River until she required more care at age 82. Edna was the floor supervisor at Woolworth’s in downtown Alton for several years. She also worked in Russell Spann’s Tax assessor’s office in Wood River. She enjoys dancing, music, her church, friends and family.
