ALTON – Residents checked up on their health at the Alton Memorial Hospital Heart/Stroke Fair.
About 347 people attended the fair on Saturday. The totals were 276 from the 377 who preregistered and 71 walk-ins. That doesn’t include the people who worked the tables and volunteered.
“The snow and cold weather might have held people back a little, but we were pleased with the attendance,” said Dave Whaley, event coordinator. “The screenings were all free. Subway in Bethalto provided lunch free of charge.”
Hospital medical experts addressed the impact of exercise, smoking, diabetes, sleep disorders, nutrition, medications and stress on the heart. Checks of blood pressure, cholesterol, hemoglobin A1c and breast exams were performed.
