Widely regarded as one of the most romantic movies of all time, “An Affair to Remember” — starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr — will be shown at the Wildey Theatre at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Hosted by the Friends of the Wildey Theatre, the event will include an option for a pre-show party featuring champagne, chocolate fountains, couples’ photographs and roses. The movie starts at 7 p.m. and the pre-party begins at 6 p.m.
Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr’s characters fall hopelessly in love on an ocean liner bound for New York City in this timeless romantic comedy. Although each is engaged to someone else, they agree to meet six months later at the top of the Empire State Building if their feelings have not changed. When a tragic accident prevents their rendezvous, the lovers’ future takes an emotional and uncertain turn. Hailed by the American Film Institute as one of the top five greatest love stories of all time, this classic 1957 film inspired another silver screen romantic comedy, 1993’s “Sleepless in Seattle.”
Tickets for the movie are just $10, and tickets for the movie and the pre-party are $25. Tickets can be purchased online at www.WildeyTheatre.com or by calling (618) 307-1750. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the pre-party and movie.
Proceeds will benefit the Wildey Theatre, a city-owned community performing arts theater at 252 N. Main St. in downtown Edwardsville.
