BETHALTO — A local credit union recently received recognition from Madison County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler for its exemplary service in collecting property taxes.
Prenzler presented a “top performance certificate” earlier this month to Laclede Community Credit Union on Mechanical Drive in Bethalto.
“This award was presented to the financial institution in Madison County that we felt performed the best during the collection of real estate taxes during 2013,” Prenzler said.
The branch received a certificate along with a pizza party for the credit union’s associates.
There are more than 100 branches of banks and credit unions throughout the county that accept real estate payments during the tax season. The county collects taxes in four installments — July, September, October and December.
“Collector banks and credit unions are an easy and convenient way for taxpayers to make a payment without having to come into the Treasurer’s Office,” Prenzler said.
The financial institutions collect around one quarter of the tax payments for the county. Visit www.madcotreasurer.org to find a list of collector banks and credit unions where you can pay.
