ALTON — Wear your green to Downtown Alton to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day during the city’s first St. Patty’s Day Party.
The event takes place Saturday, March 12, with 15 bars and restaurants offering entertainment and specials on drinks and food. Festivities commence at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m.
“It’s fantastic that we have so many businesses working together to promote the Downtown Alton entertainment district,” Riverbend Growth Association President Monica Bristow said.
Participating businesses include Morrison’s Irish Pub, Big Muddy Pub, Spirits Lounge, Don & Penny’s, Firehouse Tavern, Ragin Cajun Piano Bar, Bossanova Restaurant & Lounge, Catdaddy’s, Chez Marilyn, Hops House-Argosy Casino Alton, Old Bakery Beer Company, Elijah P’s, Bubby & Sissy’s, Bluff City Grill and Johnson’s Corner Restaurant. Retail stores in downtown Alton (Mosaic’s, New Frontier Furnishings, Olive Oil Marketplace and LuciAnna’s Pastries) also will be open during regular Saturday business hours.
“We thought it would be a great idea to host our own St. Patrick’s Day party since we have so many appealing places for people to show their Irish pride,” said Brett Stawar, president/CEO of the Alton Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Plus, you won’t have to deal with the traffic and drive across the river to celebrate.”
Wild Geese (at Morrison’s Irish Pub), Matt Taul & Co. (at Bluff City Grill), Owlz (at Chez Marilyn) along with other musical acts are scheduled to perform during the day. There will also be a giveaways and a shamrock coloring contest (at Old Bakery Beer) as part of the celebration. Most bars will offer deals on Irish drinks and some restaurants plan to offer Irish food staples such as corned beef and cabbage and bangers and mash.
To accommodate the expected crowd and foot traffic, portions of State, Belle and Third streets will be closed during the party. Parking will be available throughout Alton with public parking lots at William Street, Third Street, Fourth Street and Argosy Casino Alton. Street parking also will be available.
Argosy Casino Alton will offer a free shuttle (pickup and drop-off sites at Elijah P’s, Bluff City Grill, Johnson’s Corner, Alton Visitor Center and Argosy Casino Alton) throughout the day.
Sponsors are Fritz Distributing, Alton Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau, RiverBend Growth Association and Argosy Casino Alton.
