The Absence of Color Art Exhibit will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Mineral Springs Mall, 301 E. Broadway in Alton.
ALTON — Dark Horse Art Works announces the Absence of Color Art Exhibit, an eclectic blend of art with no color.
The exhibit will be open from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, July 12; guests can meet the artists and hear Art Talk at 6 p.m. The exhibit will continue Sunday, July 13.
In the exhibition, the artists present artworks deprived of color. The artists can only use tonal value to create a sense of depth. The black-and-white art and photography represents a throwback to classic photo art.
Because black-and-white art and photography involves a simple color band of blacks, white, and grays, the artists rely on shades and shapes to evoke messages in the artwork.
The artworks of Jake Bishop are large, striking oil paintings. Jacqueline Ruiz’s paintings are sensual females and creatively detailed human organs. The art of Chad Travous is finely crafted and unique clay vessels. Kevin Dale Duncan’s art is inspired by pulp illustration and modern comic work. Other featured artists include Sarah Baker and photographer Lynn Steinbach.
Most of the art will be for sale.
The event is being held at the Mineral Springs Mall’s Crystal River Ballroom, which for decades was considered to be the place in Alton to host the finest social events. The historic hotel features commanding views of the Mississippi River and Clark Bridge.
Mineral Springs Mall is located at 301 E. Broadway in Alton and can be reached at (618) 465-3200. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public. Food and a cash bar will be available.
