ALTON — The Christian Ringers Handbell Choir at Upper Alton Baptist Church will present its annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.
Special guest performance will be by the Southern gospel quartet Living Proof of Mount Vernon, Ill. This quartet has performed throughout Southern Illinois in churches, at homecomings and fairs, and in many concert venues. They have had the privilege of opening for full-time groups such as the Lesters, Dixie Melody Boys, the Kingsmen and others. The quartet is a non-denominational group singing about God’s love and ministering through the words of their songs. They stress that the goal of their ministry is to uplift the discouraged, bless the saints, and, above all, add souls to the kingdom of God through Southern gospel music. The lead singer is David Houck, son of Cheryl and Tom Houck of Godfrey.
The Upper Alton Baptist Church Christian Ringers Handbell Choir rings five octave of bells and three octaves of hand chimes and has 15 ringers. The group presents Christmas and spring concerts annually. Their selections will include “Ding Dong Merrily On High,” a jazzy rhythmic arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and a lively rendition of the German carol “Kling Glocken, Kling-A-Ling-A Ling.”
Admission to the concert is free. There will be a free-will offering taken. The church is located at 2726 College Ave., at the corner of College Avenue and Seminary Street by the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Dental School in Upper Alton.
