Fifteen high school seniors from Madison and neighboring counties will receive the Outstanding Citizenship Awards in an annual recognition ceremony held by the General George Rogers Clark Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The award certificates and pins will be presented at a ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the First Christian Church, 310 S. Main St., Edwardsville. The guest speaker will be Col. Peter Wangler, Alton High School Jr. ROTC supervisor.
The student recipients were nominated by their school on the basis of dependability, cooperative spirit, leadership, service to their school and community, evidence of personal values and patriotism.
The General George Rogers Clark Chapter is composed of members who live in Madison and nearby counties who are descendants of American patriots from the Revolutionary War.

Taylor Boodooram - Alton High School
Honorable IT Academy member, Medal of Language Arts, Medal of Computer Science, Gold, Silver and Principal Honor. Flight commander, OIC Personnel, Co-Captain of the Saber Fencing Team, head of and student director of Stage, Makeup, Lights, Sound System and Props. Co-founder of Hurricane Relief crew in Teaneck, Wrestling and Volleyball manager. AHSJROTC Drill Team and Saber Team. Active in church and Bible school, hospital work and ambulance corporation.
Mallory McCune-Civic Memorial High School (Bethalto)
Student Council President and Treasurer, Parade Marshal, Head of Fund-raising, chair of the Homecoming Committee, Illinois Student Council chair of credentials, community and church activities.
Daniel Sims - Collinsville High School
National Honor Society, honor roll for four years, president of Student Council and Model UN, VP Latin Club, Student of the Month and Character Student of the Month; varsity track as a sophomore; lab assistant for APBIO Teacher; volunteer for community functions.
Alexandra Hachmeister - East Alton-Wood River High School
Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society, Renaissance, Student of the Month, Silver Medallion. Member of Student Council, Drama and Art Clubs and the Big Sisters; first place in Envirothon competition (area/topic was current issues); Saturday Scholar and worked in the Wood River Public Library summer program.
Aaron Wilkinson - Edwardsville High School
National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, Edwardsville Police Explorer Sergeant and an Eagle Scout.
Jacob Sparks - Granite City High School
Honor Roll four years, Cougar Pride Academic Scholarship from SIUE. Alpha Peer leader, Renaissance, Rotary and Elk Student of the Month. Personal Choice award and JV Soccer captain. Active in church programs and fishing program with the Granite City Police.
Aaron Mattix-Wand - Marquette Catholic High School
Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society VP, Silver Medallion Award, “Top Scholar” honoree by AdVantage News, IHSA All State Academic Team nominee; Student Council, World Youth in Science and Engineering Competition (WYSE) team member; varsity soccer three years including state championship his junior year and captain his senior year; varsity baseball catcher four years and third in the state tournament his sophomore year. Active in church and community programs. Aaron has been awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, a national award for service, three times in his high school career. He has completed 474 service hours. He is a descendant of Revolutionary War patriot George Pontius.
Chad Carter - Metro East Lutheran High School
National Honor Society, Jazz Knights, SADD, IHSA Music-solo and ensemble contest and received first and first superior. He played varsity tennis and is an Eagle Scout.
Hannah Ditter - Triad High School
Valedictorian and 4.0 GPA; Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes president, National Honor Society VP and officer in the Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society; awards for Student Appreciation, Science, English and Social Studies Departments; basketball captain and Teammate of the Year.
