The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced daytime lane restrictions will be encountered on the I-270 Chain of Rocks Canal bridges. There will be no overnight or weekend lane closures. The lane closures are needed to perform bridge inspections.
Weather permitting, the lane closures will take place from April 28 to May 9 as follows:
- On April 28 and 29, the westbound left lane will be closed, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
- On April 30 and May 1, the westbound right lane will be closed, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
- On May 2, the westbound left lane will be closed, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On May 5 and 6, the eastbound left lane will be closed, from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. On May 7 and 8, the eastbound right lane will be closed, from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. On May 9, the eastbound left lane will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Weather permitting, it is anticipated the inspections will be completed on May 9.
Traffic control devices will be utilized during the lane closures, to assist motorists making their way through the work zone. The department asks that all motorists be patient, reduce speed, and use additional caution when traveling near and throughout this work zone.
IDOT also announced that the ramp from eastbound I-270 to southbound I-255 will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, April 28, through 3 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, weather permitting. This closure is necessary to complete the pavement patching on the ramp. The signed detour will be to continue on eastbound I-270 to northbound Illinois 157 to westbound Interstate 270 to southbound Illinois 255.
IDOT officials ask motorists to be patient, reduce speed, watch for stopped traffic ahead, and use additional caution when traveling in this work zone.
