ALTON — Team Orange Lightning will host the first Riverbend MS 5K run for the Gateway Area Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for 2014.
They are assembling an army of fund-raisers and volunteers in preparation for the fund-raising campaign Saturday, April 26, at the Alton Riverfront Amphitheater.
Money raised for the run and walk will fund research for a cure, as well as programs and services to help more than 7,100 people living with MS in the Gateway Area Chapter recognized as part of the National MS Society. The Gateway Area Chapter serves 90 counties, with 454 people living with multiple sclerosis in Madison County.
"There are various ways to become involved in the movement against MS. Whether you register as a runner, a walker or volunteer, you are making a difference in the life of someone living with MS,” said organizer Lisa Hemphill, spokesperson for the Riverbend Walk MS.
This year's event will have food, entertainment, raffles and more, along with medals being awarded to the top three male and female finishers for each age group.
