CHAMPAIGN — Kathryn Benhoff of Troy earned the certified flight instructor instrument-airplane designation this spring semester at the Institute of Aviation at the University of Illinois.
The Institute of Aviation has educated more than 13,000 pilots since 1945. Many graduates are employed in the aviation industry around the world.
Parkland College in Champaign will assume ownership of the Institute, starting fall semester 2014. Under a three-year agreement with the university, Parkland is leasing the university's aircraft and facilities at Willard Airport in Savoy to continue flight training. The Parkland College Institute of Aviation at the University of Illinois will allow students to earn a two-year associate's degree in aviation as well pilot certificates and ratings, including multi-engine and flight instructor.
