Bethalto Voice auditions will take place at 10 a.m. on June 14 at the Bethalto Village Hall. Contestants should come prepared to sing a cappella for up to one minute.
BETHALTO – The area’s newest singing competition, Bethalto Voice, is open for anyone aged 12 to 112.
“I would love to see someone win who is like 110 years old,” event organizer Jeff Allsman said. “How cool would that be?”
If any Greater Alton area residents are open to showing off their singing chops, Bethalto Voice auditions will take place at 10 a.m. on June 14 at Village Hall, 213 N. Prairie St. Contestants should come prepared to sing a cappella for up to one minute. Allsman said there are no restrictions on the style or genre of music, but the song should be appropriate for family-friendly events.
“We do not have a seven-second delay button, so keep it clean,” he said, laughing.
Of those trying out, a final 12 will be chosen and their names announced June 16 on WBGZ 1570 AM. Each finalist will have a Facebook page created to track votes.
The 12 finalists will perform to musical accompaniment at 6 p.m. on June 29, just before the Cornerstone Church fireworks show at St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto.
To coincide with the Bethalto Spirit Summer Concert Series, the 12 finalists will be divided into three groups of four and will perform half-hour sets as the opening acts to the main events. For those who wish to vote and are not on Facebook, paper ballots will be available at each performance.
“We are hoping to see these contestants bring out their family and friends to help support them,” Allsman said. “This is a great chance for people to come out who may not have attended our summer concert series before and see what we’re about and how exciting it is.”
Contestants will perform June 22 at the Arvell & Co. concert, July 6 at the Belleville Community Band concert, July 20 at the Memories of Elvis with Steve Davis event, and finally on Aug. 3 at the Whiskey River Band performance.
Voting will close at midnight on Aug. 3, and the winner of the contest will be announced, again via WBGZ 1570 AM.
“The winner will be featured during homecoming,” Allsman said. “My guess is they will be the opening act.”
Registration can be done in person at Village Hall or by downloading the form on the village’s website, http://bethalto.com/.
