Performers have more than a ghost of a chance with the announcement of auditions for Granite City High School’s 9th annual production of “A Christmas Carol.”
The 60-minute musical production will be performed at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10-12 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the high school.
All are welcome to the open auditions, which will be held from 6 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 17, at the GCHS Performing Arts Center located at 3101 Madison Avenue (the football field parking lot).
“What’s wonderful about this year’s production is that it marks our ninth year of bringing this holiday classic to life,” production director John Manoogian said. “As in the past, the cast consists of students, teachers, administrators and residents throughout our community. Auditions are open, so anyone from the community has the opportunity to join the cast.”
Available parts include Bob and Mrs. Cratchett, carolers, Marley, Tiny Tim, all three spirits, Mr. and Mrs. Fezziewig, the concrete angel, Sally, Fred, Belle, Scrooge at various ages, and Charles Dickens, who has a special role in the production.
“The exciting thing is that over the years, we’ve gone from having two performances to six,” Manoogian said. “For this year’s production, the audience will have the chance for the first time to meet Mr. Charles Dickens as he takes part in the production.”
The cast list will be announced on Sept. 25. Rehearsals will run 6:30 until 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays at the GCHS Performing Arts Center.
“We’ve created something really special in Granite City for the holidays,” Manoogian said. “Residents throughout our community have continued to make this production part of their holiday tradition, and for that we’re grateful. I’m not aware of any other high school in the country that offers this production each year.”

• Actors will be asked to do cold readings
