EAST ALTON – Caritas Family Solutions (Caritas), formerly Christian Social Services of Illinois, has partnered with Land of Lincoln Legal Services to offer free legal consultations for seniors older than 60.
Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation Inc. is an Illinois nonprofit corporation. They provide free civil legal services to low-income persons and senior citizens in 65 counties in central and southern Illinois. Throughout 2014, an attorney from Land of Lincoln will offer legal consultations in the East Alton Caritas office at 645 Berkshire Blvd. Appointments can be made by contacting Caritas at 618-258-8750. The appointments will be 30 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for couples.
Caritas Regional Director Lea Compton said, “The service will allow Caritas Family Solutions to provide yet another valuable resource to the community in which we serve.” Land of Lincoln will provide legal information on the following areas, but limited to: simple wills, power of attorney, Medicare/Medicaid issues and advance directives.
Caritas has already completed two free consultation days and has been able to assist senior citizens in Madison County with their legal needs. The partnership will continue to provide free consultation days through the end of the year.
The following dates will be available for seniors 60-plus: March 19, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15.
The headquarters for Caritas is in Belleville, where it was founded in 1947. Caritas is a nonprofit social services agency providing adoption, pregnancy care, foster care, counseling, senior assisted living, senior employment, and a home for abused and neglected children aged 6 to 12.
