GRANITE CITY — Alfresco Productions will stage “The Day They Shot John Lennon” this weekend.
The play takes place in the street in front of the Manhattan apartment house where Beatles singer and songwriter John Lennon was shot to death on Dec. 8, 1980. New Yorkers spontaneously assembled there to pay tribute to their slain idol; it is from the interwoven stories of these people that the play is written.
General admission tickets are $10 for performances Jan. 16-18. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16-17. The Jan. 18 matinee performance begins at 2 p.m. and doors open at 1 p.m. Tickets may be reserved by visiting the Alfresco website at www.AlfrescoProductions.org or by calling (618) 560-1947.
The play is directed by Wm Burch. Cast members include Julie Cox, Nick Bommarito, Kathryn Schlimpert, Alex Moore, Mike Mcpartland, James Read, Cole Comerr, Nick Drago and Joe Lancey. Jennifer Sokolo and Danny Benda will provide music before the show starts, during intermission and one hour after the performance in Club 21.
