ALTON — Saint Anthony’s Women’s Pavilion Birthing Center is adding more sessions of prenatal education classes and expanding classes into Jerseyville.
The next Childbirth Preparation/Fast Track class is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Jersey Community Hospital. Registered nurse Shannon Vitali instructs the course, which covers stages of labor and delivery, as well as breathing and relaxation techniques. Expectant moms are encouraged to take this class in their last trimester. Register early by calling 465-BABY (465-2229); class size is limited. Classes are free of charge to those delivering their babies at Saint Anthony’s.
The Childbirth Preparation/Fast Track class in Alton is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Saint Anthony’s. Physical therapist Linda Haar will instruct the June 28 course.
In addition to the Childbirth Preparation classes, a breastfeeding class is being offered at 7 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Saint Anthony’s to help expecting mothers how they can better prepare for successful breastfeeding. This class will discuss initiation of breastfeeding after delivery, starting with skin-to-skin and latch-on, as well as what to expect during the early days of breastfeeding. It is advised that expecting mothers register for the class one or two months prior to their estimated due dates.
Open since 1988, Saint Anthony’s Women Pavilion continues to provide a safe, comfortable, state-of-the-art environment for women to bring new life into the world. From conception to birth, the Women’s Pavilion offers new moms all the comforts that are needed to make pregnancy and birth as stress-free as possible.
“The most important concept at the Women’s Pavilion is providing home-like family-centered care,” said Julie Ashlock, manager of the Women’s Pavilion. “Our mothers stay in an LDRP, which means, Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum. We take care of our new mothers as they go through labor, during the delivery, while they recover and during the post-partum in the birthing suite.
“All of this is offered in the comfort of just one room, without having to go from room to room for each step of your experience. There is also a surgical and C-section room on the floor, along with a Level II Nursery, all staffed with longtime labor and delivery nurses,” Julie added.
The Women’s Pavilion offers a number of Prenatal Education opportunities in 2014:
- Childbirth preparation five-week course
- Childbirth fast track (Saturday)
- Childbirth refresher
- C-Section/anesthesia class
- Breastfeeding class
- Infant care class
