Our Lady Queen of Peace School fifth- and eighth-graders participated in a Creative Challenge on Friday, April 25. The students were on teams and competed in tasks focused on “out of the box” thinking and real-life problem solving. Tasks included engineering challenges such as building an arch made of sugar cubes, building tents using newspapers, and devising race cars using Popsicle sticks and peppermints. Students also had to answer questions testing their English and social studies skills. This was an all-day event and just one way Our Lady Queen of Peace teachers are incorporating Common Core standards into an already challenging curriculum. The school is on the campus of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bethalto.
