ALTON — Dark Horse Art Works has announced the Tattoo Art Exhibit, a collection of skin art on the human body, on display beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Spirits Lounge.
Tattoo Art Exhibit tours leave from the Spirits Lounge first floor stage area at 4, 6, and 8 p.m. A brief introduction, the rules, Art Talk and voting cards will be handed out before each tour.
“No talking to the art, please,” Dark Horse Art Works proprietor Eric Stauffer said. “A rope light on the floor will provide a pathway for visitors. The entire room will be dark except for spot lights shining on the skin art only and the identity of the person with the skin art will not be evident.”
Visitors walk freely within the rope lights to view each piece of skin art grouped by category. There will be up to 20 categories and three entries for each category. Each visitor votes for their favorite tattoo in each category, and votes will be tallied following the 8 p.m. tour.
Skin Art Categories include Best Face Tattoo, Best Back Tattoo, Best Chest Tattoo, Best Torso Tattoo, Best Full Body Tattoo, Best Under Arm Tattoo, Best Sleeve Tattoo, Best Calf Tattoo, Best Thigh Tattoo, Best Dragon Tattoo, Best Piasa Bird, Best Tribal Tattoo, Best Portrait Tattoo, Oldest Tattoo, Oldest Person with a tattoo (or over 70), Best Tramp Stamp, Best Butterfly/Dragon Fly Tattoo, Worst Tattoo Ever, Most Unusual Tattoo and Funniest Tattoo.
Following voting, a reception area will be available including drinks, vendors, artists, and more. First prizes receive a $50 cash prize; second prizes receive an honorable mention certificate.
Tickets are $5 reserved and $8 at the door. Entry fee to participate is $30 per person, one entry per person. (Note: Tattooing is not permitted at this event unless previous arrangements are made.) Tour groups are limited to 25 people per tour.
