WOOD RIVER – Wood River Chiropractic has fused with AlignLife Wellness Center, resulting in the all-new AlignLife Chiropractic Center.
A ribbon cutting earlier this month celebrated the office’s new home, new name and its new membership in the RiverBend Growth Association.
“With AlignLife on board, we are freed up from some of the business side of things and allowed to focus on patient care,” clinic owner Dr. Mike Harbison said. “For instance, we are branching out more into medical nutrition.”
Harbison says education, when it comes to holistic medicine and medical nutrition, is very important, and he hopes to be the community’s “go-to guy” with questions.
“If you come in with a hypoactive thyroid, we will do blood work, put you on a natural supplementation program, and then follow up with blood work so the patient can see the results,” he said. “People are growing distrustful of pharmaceuticals and their side effects; this gives them another, more natural option.”
Dr. Stewart Smith opened Wood River Chiropractic at 543 East Ferguson in 1981. For the next 30 years, area residents relied on Smith to help with joint pain, work injuries and chronic back problems. When he retired in 2012, Harbison, who had joined the practice that same year, took over.
Tina joined full time in January 2013, and the couple relocated a few blocks down the street to 203 East Ferguson. In the past year, they have expanded the practice and implemented new programs and services, such as founding the American Chiropractic Pregnancy and Pain Association and assisting with dental problems such as Temporomandibular Joint Disorders.
“My background in the dental field allows me to offer more pain management services,” Tina Harbison said.
Mike’s background in sports medicine also provides the education and experience to effectively use other forms of pain management medicine, such as acupuncture.
AlignLife, based out of Peoria, formed in 2009 and aligns with 19 clinics, focusing on chiropractic care, nutrition enhancement, detoxification, weight management and hormone balance. Through AlignLife, Harbison is able to offer spine and joint evaluations, adrenal stress assessments, pH testing for acidity, toxicity consultation and more.
AlignLife Chiropractic Center is open 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 7 a.m. until noon on Friday. Initial consultations are free.
