The year of 2014 was a year of change, transition, excitement, experimentation, gratitude and innovation for AdVantage News. We ended the year a much different entity than how it began. While the growth was positive and gave the Greater Alton area what it wanted, I know it also could be a little head-spinning. This quick little “question and answer” session should clarify anything regarding AdVantage News that may have you wondering.
Why don’t you cover St. Louis news?
When we began this adventure, we listened to what the local community was saying, and that was a desire for hyper-local coverage. If we have a story, it is by, about and affecting YOUR back yard.
What area does your news coverage include?
We cover the Greater Alton area — Godfrey, Alton, East Alton, Wood River, Bethalto, Roxana, South Roxana, Cottage Hills, Rosewood Heights and Hartford.
Are you an Associated Press newspaper?
No. This is solely a creation of local residents who believe there are many other sources for national and international news out there for you. In addition, that frees us from certain restrictions. We like to think of our print edition almost as a magazine and as a result, we want our writing to be exciting and relatable. We are not talking AT you; we want you to feel that we are having a conversation!
You never have stories about arrests, sex crimes and murder investigations on your front page … why?
As YOUR community newspaper, we feel there are many positive stories to tell about Greater Alton’s accomplishments and so that is our focus. Again, the modern age has made it possible to stay up-to-date on “hard news” from a wide variety of sources.
How can I submit a story idea?
I live outside of your delivery area … where can I pick up a copy?
If you do not receive our print publication in your mailbox each week, we also are available at Casey’s General Store in Bethalto, Behme’s Market and Bertel’s Sales and Service in Dorsey, Casey’s General Store, Dollar General, Shell, Spring Garden Restaurant and Tom’s Supermarket in Brighton, and the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as our office here in Alton.
You are in print on the weekends. How can I keep updated through the week?
Our print publication is just one segment of our interaction with the Greater Alton area. Our website, www.advantagenews.com, is updated 24/7 with news items, sports scores and features, events, weather alerts and more. In addition, our Facebook page at AdVantage News allows us to interact with the area (and have some fun with our postings).
I want to reach thousands of households … how can I advertise in your publication?
It’s as easy as picking up your phone … just call (618) 463-0612 and we can answer all of your questions and get the ball rolling to ensure nearly 40,000 households see your ad, safe and dry in your mailbox.
