A wonderful event happened in Wood River Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Central Park near the Wood River pool.
It was an ice cream social hosted by the Wood River Woman’s Club with the assistance of Mayor Fred Ufert and City Clerk Jan Sneed, Jason Woody and Fred Slow of the Parks and Recreation Department. I would like to thank the Wood River Library and the Heritage Council, Wood River Rotary, Shell Community Federal Credit Union, Pickerill’s BBQ, (it was fantastic), Good-Looking Kettle Corn, Riverbend Juniorettes, Jeri Parks for her free balloon animals, River Bend Bounce for the two bounce houses and free face-painting. I also want to give out a huge thank you to Prairie Farms Ice Cream and Tom Stalcup for providing the ice cream given away free to everyone. I also want to thank TC’s Good Cakes and Sweet Sisters Cake and Confections along with 6th Street Diner, which provided the pies for the pie-eating contest. The pies were wonderful. Everyone enjoyed the pie-eating contest and it will return next year.
I would like to thank our Municipal Band and Rolly Overmeyer for our musical entertainment. I want to give out a big shout to the Wood River Woman’s Club, which was willing to help with anything that was asked of them.
We have already begun to plan this event for next year. The date is July 12, 2015. I also want to give out a big thank-you to our vendors who sat out in the heat — thank you.
I look forward to next year’s bigger and better ice cream social.
