This next review is my 50th with AdVantage News and it is a little unusual. I kept hearing about a place up north that had hot food and a bakery inside a convenience store. I felt that I had to check this out but I was surprised at how far away it actually was.
My companion and I drove and drove until we finally found it, a blue and white building set in an ocean of farmland. Everything was clean and shiny. There were a couple of tables and booths along one wall. We walked over to the food counter and checked out the specials for the day. I finally decided on a two-slice pizza deal with a 32-ounce drink and three-piece chicken fingers with fries special with a 32-ounce drink. Each was $3.99. My companion also chose a bowl of chili (of course.) Then we each selected a huge cupcake from the bakery. Mine was pumpkin with cream cheese frosting on sale for $1 and my friend took a chocolate one with chocolate frosting for $2. Gooey Butter cookies and Famous Cinnamon Rolls were also available, among many other goodies.
We were told to enjoy our food and pay afterward. The food was fine and so filling that we had to save the cupcakes for later. I investigated the store while I waited for my companion to finish eating. This was like no convenience store I had ever seen! In the rear there was a room labeled “Beer Cave,” where cases of that beverage were stacked high. There was an ATM beside the swinging doors of a gaming room. Through the doors were five video gaming machines and another ATM. Down a short hall were two restrooms labeled “Bucks” and “Does.” The restrooms were spacious, spotless and fully appointed.
I asked the server who had prepared our meal for a ticket so I could pay, and she said not to worry, she had already told the cashier what we had ordered. Everyone was friendly and smiling. I would have made the trip for the bakery alone, but everything else was the icing on the cake!
Overall – 5 stars
Service – 5 stars
Cleanliness – 5 stars
Food – 4 1/2 stars
