Did you guess what restaurant I reviewed last time? It was Spring Garden Family Restaurant at 300 N. Maple St. in Brighton. Great desserts in a convenient location!

My steady companion had helped me through a tedious afternoon of shoe shopping, so I wanted to get a big steak to reward this dedication. We traveled southwest until I spied a restaurant I had not visited in a long while. We were seated at a booth by the window in a large dining room that twisted around on itself, thereby making the most of every foot of available floor space. Two flat-screen televisions were placed so all patrons could view one or the other. I noticed a whiteboard when we came in with specials, and each table had cards listing specials for each day of the week. In addition, there were cards listing 13 specials for seniors, ranging from $7.95 to $8.25.
A smiling server brought us menus, flatware-in-a-napkin and took our drink orders. When we requested water, she offered lemon. We both ordered New York-style sirloin steak, which came with soft rolls, real butter, our choice of potato and either soup or salad. I chose a green salad with bleu cheese dressing and my companion asked for ham and bean soup.
More napkins came with the salad and soup. My salad was the standard iceberg lettuce with strips of carrot and red cabbage, with the addition of tomato, cucumber and croutons. My friend was delighted with the delicious soup and exclaimed about the amount of ham in it.
We were both surprised at the size of the steaks, which were at least 12 ounces. I had paid the same price for 7-ounce steaks only a few days before at a nationally known chain restaurant. We also each had our potatoes on a separate plate and a small bowl of peas. Our dinners were $14.95 apiece.
There were many mouth-watering desserts available, but neither of us could have handled another bite. The restrooms were clean and well-appointed. It was really nice that the men’s room had stalls with doors. A little privacy is always appreciated.
Toothpicks were available at the cashier’s stand. This was a very pleasurable dining experience.
