Did you find out what restaurant I reviewed last time? It was R & R Clifton County Inn and Bakery, at 3015 W. Delmar Ave. in Godfrey. You can find really good meals and friendly faces there!

On a crisp autumn Saturday, my companion and I were headed north, where I spied a comfortable-looking restaurant on the left side of the road. Walking in, I saw an oblong room with vertical blinds and valances featuring chickens and sunflowers on the windows. Other country-themed pictures were on each wall, but Halloween decorations were everywhere. One wall had a large flat-screen television, and before I knew it I was engrossed in an old episode of “The Big Valley.”
There were plenty of tables already set with flatware-in-a-napkin at each place setting. This was the only napkin either of us were given. Specials were listed on a whiteboard, but when we were given menus, the regular prices were the same as that of the specials. I chose a fried pork chop dinner with carrots and applesauce, and my friend ordered grilled chicken with a tossed salad and slaw. We both had water. Both dinners were $9.59.
The salad and a basket of crackers came out before anything else. The salad was colorful and fresh, with a little bowl of Italian dressing on the side. When the remaining food arrived, I was delighted to find that I had “real” carrots, meaning that they did not come out of a can. They had been peeled, chopped and seasoned in a kitchen, not a factory. The pork chops were tasty, but just a touch too salty. The chicken, applesauce and slaw were all fine.
A smaller whiteboard listed pie, including sugar-free varieties. I had a caramel-pecan pie and my friend ordered sugar-free coconut crème pie. We each received a clean fork with our desserts. The pie was delicious! Each slice was $3.
The two restrooms were OK, with everything necessary for comfort, but the back door of the restaurant was blocked by stacked high chairs.
Toothpicks, candy and copies of AdVantage News were available at the cashier’s stand.
