EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a monthly column provided by the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau that discusses the tourism events on the horizon.
That sweeping sound you heard was indeed your Alton Regional CVB sweeping up the tourism marketing excellence awards at the Illinois Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism a couple of weeks ago.
Still very proud to say, we won the most awards, including best website, leisure collateral and branding along with the coveted Best of Show award! Kudos to our staff, board, partners and community for making this place really shine in our tourism efforts.
The other sweeping sound you might be hearing is the brooms hitting the entryways to dust off the past season and welcome in a clean start to our busy spring and summer tourism throughout the region. At the CVB we are working full steam ahead on a new Grafton Visitor Map and we just completed the Downtown Alton Visitor Map. We are putting the finishing touches on the summer events guide and we are ready to roll. Ad campaigns are almost all set to welcome as many new visitors as we can to our region. Bring on the seasons of amazing outdoor fun!
And looking even more deeply into your CVB, our board never lets the dust settle as they worked this past week to continue our strategic planning platforms focused on growth that support our region’s vision for tourism. We will also be working on a special legislative meeting in early May with our federal congressmen Mike Bost and Rodney Davis to show them the importance of our industry to so many in their districts.
Your CVB will usher in the new season next month during the U.S. Travel Association’s National Travel and Tourism Week. We will be hosting a Rally 4 Tourism on May 4 sponsored by Argosy Casino and we will also celebrate our Tourism Information Centers along I-70 and I-64. In addition, we will make sure all St. Louis Cardinals fans know about our upcoming fun through a visit to the St. Louis CVC’s Be A Tourist in Your Own Backyard event at Busch Stadium. Lots of things are going on these days to help launch this busy, busy time of year.
Please join the Alton Regional CVB and the Alton Visitor Center to be a part of the movement of tourism. We can truly always use the help and inspiration from our community. Check out www.VisitAlton.com, stop in the Alton Visitor Center or call us at (618) 465-6676.
