EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a monthly column provided by the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau that discusses the tourism events on the horizon.
We’re off to a phenomenal start to the summer tourism season in the Great Rivers region!
This past couple weeks, we welcomed the Nina and the Pinta boats at the Loading Dock in Grafton. People from Ohio, Iowa, Kentucky and everywhere in between made it down to tour these boats. Reports from places in Grafton are all positive, some even saying this past weekend was their best weekend in many, many years, or even ever. Also, our hotel market continues to pick up steam as the fully renovated rooms at the Comfort Inn and Atrium Hotel with two great weekends of overnights. Our parks have been busy with the Tour De Cure bike ride and some great baseball tournaments with Greater Midwest Baseball and Game Day USA.
Now, it’s time for us to continue to experience this big bang start to summer for its duration. This coming week, your CVB has a lot of promotions in full swing, from ads in Midwest Living and AAA Midwest Traveler to even some big national exposure on the Food Traveler Magazine. We also will be welcoming the Fox TV stations from Springfield and Central Illinois markets for a live broadcast from Alton on Wednesday, June 15, along with a week of TV commercials on the Great Rivers region. This will coincide with our joint radio advertising campaigns that we are running in conjunction with the Grafton Chamber of Commerce. And, if that were not enough, your CVB is also hosting a getaway week on KMOV for Great Day St. Louis with promotions and ads throughout the week on KMOV.
We also have the live webisodes scheduled on VisitAlton.com/webisodes with an upcoming one of Boating on the Mississippi. And we will also be welcoming another Japanese group tour coming to explore our great rivers, on the heels of a past German group that was here last week. To say things are busy at the Alton CVB is a true understatement. We are in the heat of summertime fun!
We must encourage all of you to come into the Alton Visitor Center soon. Thanks to a partnership with Picture This and More, the Alton Visitor Center looks at its best with local photography on display for our attractions and destination drivers. Quint Long and his crew truly pulled out the stops to make sure Alton shines for visitors. And if visitors love what they see, they literally can buy it! All prints are on sale, too, at the Alton Visitor Center. Summer is blooming nicely and we hope to keep things hopping all summer long in the Great Rivers region. Plan your summertime fun at VisitAlton.com.
