A bus crashes and rolls onto its side. The passengers and driver are hurled around, sustaining multiple injuries. The bus lands on top of an occupied car as a second vehicle slams into the rear axle of the bus ... fortunately, this was a training exercise for the Godfrey and Brighton fire departments. Nineteen volunteer “victims” were arranged around the wreck area with injuries that could be caused by this type of collision. “This exercise is being run in real time,” Godfrey Assistant Fire Chief Eric Kranmer said. “This is a great example of private and public companies cross-training. It is a great opportunity for the firemen from Godfrey and Brighton to test their skills.” The original driver of the van was texting when he ran into a moving Amtrak train. He survived but lost the family vehicle in the process. Bowers Towing, Capt. Jim’s Fireworks and Illinois Central School Bus sponsored the training.
