For many years, the Ursuline Sisters were a presence in Ss. Peter and Paul School in Alton. With their convent scheduled to close, the sisters donated a statue of their founder, St. Angela Merici, to Ss. Peter and Paul. Msgr. Kenneth Steffen invited the nuns to a Mass in their honor. Three of the sisters who were at one time affiliated with the school attended. After Mass, they joined the students and staff for a picture. Seated (center, from left) are Sister Theresa (formerly Mother Mercedes), Sister Joan Ann Springman, and Sister Marian (formerly Mother Ligouri). Both Sister Theresa and Sister Marian served as principals at the school. Sister Joan Ann is a former student and teacher. St. Angela Merici can be seen in the background. She looks over the students as they enter the building each day. Ss. Peter and Paul is honored to provide a home for her.
