“I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens…” Isaiah 45:12
Scientism is the world-view that all knowledge and truth is obtained only through natural observation of the material universe. Scientism dismisses the idea of a supernatural Person or a Mind behind the creation of the universe and its natural laws. A life is strictly soulless and material in nature.
The biblical world-view says God is behind the creation of the universe. The teleological argument for the evidence of an unchanging, morally perfect God is that the universe reflects an orderly designed harmony bound by natural laws, which encompass the natural sciences and mathematics. God is revealed through general revelation; the nature and world in which we live and observe, and by special revelation; the scriptures. God didn’t leave us on our own to figure out life.
The Bible reveals we are created in the image and likeness of God. What separates humankind from the rest of creation is that God breathed a soul into humankind creating people with intrinsic value and inherent meaning. Humankind’s intrinsic attributes created the natural inclination to pursue reason, truth and goodness. The pursuit of truth leads to new knowledge and brings about our deliberation and choice leading to individual charity and freedom.
You reflect the image of God and possess inherent dignity, intrinsic moral worth and eternal value. You are sacred. You have unique gifts, talents and a purpose. You are valuable in the sight of God and can’t be duplicated. Anchored in a sovereign God, Christianity allows the believer to look rationally and confidently at the world and up at the heavens and conclude he or she matters. Your life has meaning. Your life has purpose.
