This week’s article is written by Arnie Saaf, a member of Godfrey First United Methodist Church, 1100 Airport Road.
There is something about “church.” Our churches are not buildings … they are families of faith. We have a great church family. Almost any person who is a member of a church can make the same claim. Why? There’s a simple answer. LOVE.
Jesus told his disciples (read students or followers) that “they would be known by their love,” John 13:35. Members of church families know this to be true, because they are loved by their church family.
Our church experienced this love in two dramatically different occasions recently. The first was a surprise birthday “reception” for our pastor on his birthday, which was really a roast. Yes, we roasted our pastor ... until he was well-done. But in doing so, the sanctuary was filled with our love for him. The next love fest was a funeral for a young mother. Again the love was so thick, you could cut it.
Love is the most important reason for becoming a member of a church. Cynics say the all churches want is your money. That’s wrong. Churches want you to receive their love and the love of Jesus.
