Hurry! We have to put up the Christmas tree and hang the lights on the front porch and put up the lights on the mantel and bring in a load of firewood and …
Is this you today? Do you think of all the things that must be done because Christmas is just around the corner? You will get those things done because they are on your must do list! But what about the things that are really about the true meaning of Christmas? Do we give this much attention to that true meaning? That meaning is the birth of the Christ, Jesus.
Over the years we have added so many “things” to Christmas that we sometimes forget what Christmas really means. We must agree that all the lights, the Christmas tree, gift giving and all other things that mean Christmas to you are usually very nice. Just don’t let these “nice” things overshadow the true meaning of the holiday.
Matthew 1:18-25 will give you the story of the birth of Jesus. A more familiar story of Jesus birth can be found in Luke 2:1-20. This is the scripture that many children learn when they are growing up and are asked to be in “the Christmas Pageant.” Think hard! I bet if you were ever in a Christmas Pageant, you can remember selected words from that scripture. Review it before Christmas Eve and you will remember even more.
Jesus was God’s gift to the world. God gave this Gift because God loves us. We give gifts at Christmas to our loved ones for the same reason. Our gifts are not as wonderful as God’s gift, but our gifts can be given with the same feeling of love.
Remember to give Love this Christmas. If it is given back to you, be thankful because love is God’s greatest gift. Merry Christmas!
