Benjamin Franklin is attributed with the following statement:
“Tell me and I will forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn.”
If we are to really help people, we need to get involved with them: get to know them and their challenges. We can “see” people and not realize what they are facing in life. We must get to know them. When Jesus told of the separation of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25: 31-46), both groups asked, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you drink? Or a stranger and help you? Or naked and clothe you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you? And I will tell them ‘when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ ”
