ROXANA — First Baptist Church, 100 S. Central, will convene the first It’s 4 U Mom meeting from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 23.
Pastor the Rev. Michael Stark said the meeting will be a chance for moms of all ages to discuss topics of mutual interest.
“It’s a chance for moms, grandmothers and great-grandmothers to come together and be able to discuss any issues,” he said.
It’s 4 U Mom will meet every fourth Tuesday and have a guest speaker on different topics each month. The night out will be concurrent with the school year, Stark said.
Stark said discussions will cover everything from scrapbooking to cooking. A nurse practitioner is one of the scheduled speakers. The first woman speaker will talk about children’s different learning styles.
“Some of the older moms will be the ‘mentor’ moms. You know, the moms who have been there, who have raised teens, had problems in their marriage. These ladies may need to talk with someone, so these mentor moms will have that available,” Stark said.
Renissa Francis, the outreach program’s main coordinator, has worked for MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and is in charge of booking and scheduling.
“Renissa has been doing a great job and it’s exciting to see how it’s growing,” Stark said.
Although this is “mom time,” children will be welcome; a trained staff will provide child care.
“Dinner will also be provided for the moms and children,” Stark said.
It’s 4 U Mom began when Josie Aenis and Pam Tebow wanted to create a ministry for mothers with children of all ages.
Aenis, before retiring to Jacksonville, Fla., headed the Cincinnati MOPS ministry.
“Once mothers didn’t have preschoolers in the home, then MOPS wasn’t for them,” he said. “Josie wanted to change that.”
Beginning in Jacksonville, It’s 4 U Mom became popular in churches worldwide.
“Josie knew I was pastoring here in this area, so I got a call from her asking about starting one here,” Stark said. “She flew out in June, and she spoke with the church and some of the women here. We decided to give it a try.”
Stark said they want to spread the word and get the community involved.
Stark said he hopes for the best for the church’s future and wants to make It’s 4 U Mom a valuable resource for moms in the community.
