New Wood River calendar available in time for the holidays
“Historic Wood River Churches” is the title of the new 2016 Wood River History Calendar. The eighth annual calendar is now available, recognizing two churches celebrating 100 years in 2016, and several others are close to reaching this milestone. St. Paul Lutheran and First Baptist Church of Wood River both formed their congregation in 1916. This prompted the Heritage Council to prepare a calendar to recognize churches that have made their home here for at least 50 years.
Readers will see an abundance of pictures and stories related to the various churches, congregations, ceremonies and events.
The calendars would make a perfect Christmas gift for residents and can be purchased for $5 at the following Wood River locations: City Hall, Library, Museum, Farm Fresh, Camp Drug Store, Shell Community Credit Union, Bank of Edwardsville, Cloverleaf Bank, Medicine Shoppe and Illinois Cleaners. Proceeds will benefit the Wood River Museum.
The first calendar introduced in 2008 was created in honor of the city of Wood River’s Centennial Year. It was a sellout and the Heritage Council has prepared a calendar each year with a different theme.
