Wood River resident Randy Joseph Glover had short hair for 43 of his 52 years but decided in 2006 to grow it long.
Never having colored his hair or had more than a trim in the last nine years, he decided to honor his late mother, who died of lung cancer in 2003, by cutting his hair Thursday morning and donating it to Locks of Love.
“I’ve always had short hair before 2006 when I started growing it out,” Glover said. “I wanted to do this for mom. It was getting so long, it was time.”
Paradise Salon stylist Carolyn Mahan did the honors of cutting Glover’s hair. She wanted to be the one to do it because she and Glover are in a relationship.
“I’ve never known him to have short hair,” Mahan said. “Seeing him with short hair will be so weird.”
Paradise Salon takes appointments and accepts walk-ins at 118 E. Ferguson Ave. in Wood River. To make an appointment or donate hair to Locks of Love, call Carolyn at (618) 251-8054 Tuesday through Saturday.
