Fifth- to eighth-grade Our Lady Queen of Peace School students participated in the Creative Challenge Friday, April 24. Teachers assigned tasks to complete in STEM, logic and other subjects to students in groups of four. “By doing the Creative Challenge each year, we hope to foster teamwork, time management skills and critical thinking in our students,” seventh-grade teacher Angie Waldo said. One challenge was creating an 18- to 30-inch bridge out of common materials such as paper rolls, clothes pins, straws, an index card and construction paper. Students were awarded points for each washer their bridge supported. Kindergarten through eighth-grade registration is May 4 to May 8 during school hours; call (618) 377-6401 or visit www.olqpbethalto.org for information.
