The Alton-Godfrey Kiwanis awarded six college scholarships Tuesday, May 26, at its annual Celebration of Excellence Scholarship Dinner at Julia’s Banquet Center. This year’s recipients (from left) are: Emily Brandt, plans to attend Greenville College and major in elementary education; Toby Berglund will go to Millikin University and major in music education; Monica Wickenhauser will attend Truman State, majoring in accounting; Joseph Twichell, going to University of Mississippi to major in engineering; James Heil will attend Evangel University and major in preaching and church leadership; Adele Schenk (not pictured) plans to attend Saint Louis University majoring in international business.
Attendees included five of the six scholarship recipients and their guests as well as Alton-Godfrey Kiwanis club members and their guests.
Past President and Scholarship Committee Chair Carla Totten greeted those attending, Diane Horning gave the blessing and President Karen Ullrich addressed the group with information about Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis family of organizations. She told of the work of the Kiwanis International Foundation as well as the club's outreach efforts.
Totten presented the scholarships individually to each of the recipients who spoke on their backgrounds and goals. Jerry Gibson photographed the awards presentations and prepared a press release for the media.
