The seventh annual Miles for Meso 5K Race & 2K Fun Run/Walk returned to Alton Sept. 26. A record-breaking year, the event welcomed more than 800 participants outside the Simmons Hanly Conroy law firm. Approximately 1,000 people visited the event prior to Simmons Hanly Conroy Chairman John Simmons firing the starting pistol to begin the race. The Mesothelioma Warrior Virtual Team had roughly 45 participants run in the name of mesothelioma victims who lost their battle or were not able to participate. With all ages welcome and featuring 14 age brackets, the top three times in each age group received a medal while a monetary prize was awarded for first place, $500; second place, $250; third place, $200, fourth place, $100; and fifth place, $50. In past years, the event has raised more than $150,000 for mesothelioma research.
