St. Mary’s Church in Alton rang in the eighth year of Oktoberfest Oct. 9 with a concert by the Glendale Riders. The official celebration kicked off Oct. 10 with the tapping of the first keg as guests drank for free until the keg ran dry. Saturday and Sunday featured performances by bands such as Baywolfe, St. Louis Czech Express, Back in the Saddle and the Harman Family Bluegrass Band. Organizers planned for guests of all ages as adults took part in live and silent auctions and a $10,000 sweepstakes while children enjoyed a rock-climbing wall, inflatable bounce houses, slides and obstacle courses.
