EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a monthly column provided by the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau that discusses tourism events on the horizon.
It was a fantastic July Fourth week of celebrations all around the region.
The city of Alton-sponsored concerts were a nice success at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater. In addition, the many fireworks displays across the region in Bethalto, Godfrey and Grafton put a nice cap on the holiday week. This week old man river continues to try to nudge its way into an almost perfect season, with limited impact.
As we look at the week ahead, the Alton Regional CVB is proud to sponsor Alton’s All-Star Restaurant Week with 15 family-owned restaurants. Beginning on Friday, July 11, and running through Sunday, July 20, these eateries have designed great menus and great deals at the price points of $10 for lunch or $25 for dinner, and sometimes two can dine for $25. This region is blessed with great flavors and restaurant business partners. For the second year in a row, we have started a summer week that co-exists with Major League Baseball’s All Star Break. This year we divided up our participating restaurants into two teams, Team Lewis and Team Clark. Be sure to let us know who you think has the best lineup and chance to “win.” Also, make sure you bring us your receipt from a participating restaurant and we will give you a free St. Louis Cardinals/Budweiser pint glass. One glass per receipt and you must be 21 to receive the glass.
As we forge ahead through the month of July, we have our sites on fall. The very popular fall guide will be available in mid-August to help invite thousands of people to our great rivers region. The guide features great drives and roadside stands to pick up the flavors of the season.
We are also looking forward to new shuttle tours that include garden tours, Underground Railroad and the “eat like a local” BBQ tours. More information on the dates available and costs can be found at www.VisitAlton.com/Shuttle.
In the past month, we’ve also made some significant upgrades to our website, www.VisitAlton.com. We now offer LiveChat for visitors to ask questions about their trip or our destination. We also have an online gift shop for people to buy some great souvenirs at www.VisitAlton.com/Store. Check out the great upgrades and information for what’s happening at www.VisitAlton.com.
