An Alton man died Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash, Madison County’s coroner said in a press release.
Coroner Stephen P. Nonn identified the crash victim as Kenneth A. Johnson Jr., 28, of the 800 block of Oakwood.
Johnson was reportedly speeding in a 2004 Chevy Trail Blazer west on Homer Adams Parkway. The vehicle went out of control and struck a traffic signal pole at the intersection of Homer Adams Parkway and Seminary Road before leaving the road and stopping in an overturned position.
The incident was reported to authorities at 2:19 a.m. Saturday, March 8. The decedent was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 a.m. Two passengers were wearing their seat belts and suffered minor injuries.
Johnson died as the result of blunt head trauma. Routine toxicology testing will be performed. The incident remains under investigation by the Alton Police Department as well.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
