ALTON — Unit IL-981 at Alton High School has been selected as one of 289 units out of 870 Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps units worldwide to receive the Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award for 2015-2016.
This award recognizes units that have performed above and beyond expectations, have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community, and that are producing better citizens for America.
The programs’ objectives are to educate and train high school-age cadets in citizenship and life skills. The program promotes community service, responsibility, character and self-discipline through character education. Air Force JROTC provides instruction in the basics of air and space exploration.
