ALTON — The city has given the go-ahead for several road closures in the coming weeks for various events.
Broadway will be closed from 5 until 10 p.m. between the Broadway Connector and U.S. 67 on Saturday, Oct. 31, to accommodate the city’s annual Halloween parade. Illinois 140 also will be closed from Washington Avenue to the Broadway Connector and U.S. 67 from East Broadway to Ninth Street as well to accommodate the parade.
On Nov. 28, the eastbound lanes of McAdams Highway (Illinois 100) from East Broadway and U.S. 67 to the city limits will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until noon to accommodate a run by the Alton Road Runners Club. On Dec. 5, Fourth Street between Easton and George streets and Court Street from Fourth to Fifth Street will be closed from 7 until 10 a.m. to accommodate the Arthritis Foundation Run. Barricades also will block traffic from 11th and 12th streets at Alby Street on that morning.
In addition, Amtrak service to and from Alton will be interrupted through the end of the month. Upgrades on train bridges to improve efficiency and service necessitate the need for the Texas Eagle and Lincoln Service to sit idle through Oct. 31. Buses will be provided for customers traveling from Alton to Chicago. More information is available at www.amtrak.com.
